Scholarship Programme

During the time Ratanak International has been engaged working in Cambodia we have established a network of professional partners in various locations across the nation allowing us to deliver effective solutions to identified issues as they arise.

Recent UNICEF figures reveal that 77% of all families in Cambodia live on less than $2 a day.

Education, therefore, is limited with very restricted opportunities of further education.

Good education is considered essential for escaping the poverty trap. Significant employment opportunities exist for those with appropriate qualifications

At secondary school level participation is low with only about 30 per cent of boys and 10 per cent of girls enrolled. Percentages from rural areas are significantly lower than this.

This year, working with a close partner in rural Cambodia, Ratanak International (UK) has developed a scholarship programme to allow students from poor communities to attend further education. This will be open to young people from impoverished families.

Students will be funded for the annual course fees together with study materials and travel to and from university. This allows them to remain within the family unit and take care of their responsibilities. Students agree to ensure that on completion of their course and subsequent employment, a percentage of their salary will be contributed to the fund to ensure that others are able to benefit.

Annual tuition costs are $600 with an additional $400 for travel and required text books.
