Ratanak International has engaged with Prison Fellowship Cambodia (PFC) for a number of years. PFC operates across Cambodia with the full support and engagement of the Cambodian Prison Department. In addition, local churches have engaged with PFC to provide the necessary services .
PFC’s vision and mission identifies long term objectives as well as the means to achieve long term success.
Vision Statement: “To see those affected by crime and imprisonment restored and empowered to improve their communities”
Mission Statement: “To help restore the lives of those affected by crime and imprisonment; to demonstrate the love of Christ in all we do; to support those who desire to know and follow him”
The overall objectives fall into the following criteria:
- To holistically restore lives and relationships affected by crime and imprisonment (physically, economically, relationally, emotionally, spiritually);
- To break the cycle of recidivism and prevent offending within families of prisoners and former prisoners.
Kampong Thom Prison
- Prison Population: around 320
- Number of prisoners released annually: around 20
PLANNED SERVICE PROVISION
Education
- Literacy (for 80% of prison population)
- English Language (for around 40 people)
- Sewing (for approximately 20 women)
- Haircutting (for approximately 20 men)
- Computer course (for 12 prison staff and 12 prisoners)
- Sports programme (for whole prison)
Reintegration Support
- 20 prisoners per year provided with reintegration support
- 15 will be supported by local church and provided with short term accommodation, and a starter pack
- 5 will travel to Phnom Penh to receive more comprehensive support services at the Reintegration centre
- 5 will receive follow up community support
